Dear Moses,

Last night, while you were sleeping, a black man was elected president of the United States. You do not know what this means for you now, and truthfully, neither do I. But what I feel is an overwhelming sense of hope. Hope that this means a better world for you. Hope that you really can be judged for the content of your charater. Hope that when you see your face reflected in that of a powerful man, you will know that it's true--you can be anything.
All the world will know Barack Obama's story. You, son, are just starting to write yours. I have always, and will always, believe in your greatness. Now everyone else knows too--a little black boy with a white mama can change the world.

Love, Mom

Dear Ava,

Also, a girl got pretty close to being the president too. We've ALL come a long way baby! You kids listen to your pasty, skinny, white momma, and you'l see you can both do anything.

Hey, easy on the pasty remarks. We can't all have Italian fathers.

Did I say pasty?

Oops! I meant "perty"!

Hey Lisa! This is your fellow A Act of Love mom, Kristen (Kyle sis). I check out your blog from time to time and this post about our new president touched me cause I felt the same with Eme. I was a little torn during this election because even though I didn't completely agree with his ideas I was excited at the idea of Eme growing up in a world that has bi-racial president. I worry about her and some of the problems she may face and this seemed to make me breathe a sigh of relief. I am glad to know of others moms out there that feel the same way I do. Check out my blog if you get the chance kristenandjeremys.blogspot.com

I'm so glad live in a country where I can vote for beautiful things like this to happen! Regardless of how the presidency turns out, the impact will last forever.
